About yoga with Judy
Judy teaches Hatha Yoga that is Iyengar style with emphasis on alignment. She uses props to make the poses accessible to all body sizes and types. The instructions given to teach the pose are biased toward the movement of prana (vital force, life energy) in the pose rather than toward range of motion. In other words, the emphasis is not on how far you are able to force a limb or other body part in a particular direction to make the pose look like the picture on the cover of the yoga magazine but arranging the spine and the limbs so that prana moves freely and the breath is unrestricted. Ultimately, all persons can practice yoga asana when taught from this predisposition. Judy’s students are encouraged to use awareness of the breath to connect the body and the mind and to maintain this awareness throughout the class. She also asks the student to become aware of the body as a whole. There is particular emphasis on using this practice to experience the body kinesthetically and to focus on the felt sense of the body and the body’s energy while in the pose. Because of her nursing background, Judy is particularly suited to teach the student with medical diseases such as heart or lung disease. She is registered through Yoga Alliance as E-RYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher), 500 hr and teaches classes at multiple levels and venues throughout the city of Albuquerque. She also has private and semi-private students and is adjunct faculty in High Desert Yoga’s Teachers’ Training. Judy has developed and teaches the Senior Yoga Teachers’ Training, also at HDY.
Judy welcomes students of all ages, ability and fitness levels to her classes. She has the privilege of teaching at two wonderful yoga studios in Albuquerque: High Desert Yoga and Wellspring Yoga. She also teaches at the Harwood Art School with one of the finest and devoted yoga communities. TESTIMONIALS
I began taking Judy’s gentle yoga class because I suffer from chronic back pain, arthritis and osteoporosis. Judy has an extensive knowledge of the human body and she customizes every practice to accommodate each person’s needs. She provides a gentle workout perfectly suited to our older age-group – and she is warm and funny and makes yoga a fun experience. Thanks to Judy, I am experiencing improvement in my symptoms. Judy is an incredible yoga teacher and I would strongly recommend her to anyone contemplating a yoga experience.

I have taken Judy’s yoga classes for several years and they have been a big help for the scoliosis and arthritis in my lower back and have helped me avoid many accidents on my hikes in the mountains. Her background in nursing has also been a big plus.
